    Trudi, I just took a look at the mesh and usually with a mesh like this and for a lot of converted Sims 3 objects the best approach for recoloring is to play around with photoshop hues. Unfortunately, the pattern will remain unless the hue is dark that will somewhat hide the pattern on the mesh. I could be wrong, but I just don't think having the "shadow" is going to make a difference.....but it's worth a try.

    I have made you a transparent background that can be used as an overlay on the texture you want to use. I have not tested this in game so I am not sure how this will work because I can still slightly see the patterns, so try playing around with the transparency in photoshop. When I have some free time today I will see what else I can do. Here's the file:

    On the left is a transparent of the original curtain, the picture on the right is what your recolor will look like when you place the transparent overlay on top of your texture. Note that you do lose some of the details and that the curtain on the right is transparent (shear) as well.

    You can find instructions on how to make your curtain transparent, here: http://www.blackpearlsims.com/showth...dummies-please)

    Right, the file I sent you is to be used as an overlay. So what you will do is recolor as you normally do and take my file and layer it on top of your texture. You will have 3 layers;
    Layer O = Mesh
    Layer 1 = Texture (yours)
    Layer 2 = My transparent file (make sure that it is on top of your texture)

    Your recolor will show as a solid recolor in game. If you want a sheer recolor you will use the same recolor steps above and then follow the instructions from Tinkle.
