Laura, The Clean installer helps you to identify what type of package files are in your downloads. For example, most of the times it gives you the information regarding if the files are Objects (it identify as Objects the files that are furniture and the build items), Recolors, Floors, Walls, Clothing, Meshes of Hair, Hair Recolors, Glasses (Accessories), Skins and so on. Also, if you check on the Preview option, most of the time when you click
the entry, it opens a a pop-up with a preview of the mesh to give you an idea which is the file. You also have the option to choose how to sort the files by clicking in the header.

The files highlighted in RED are hacks and files that overrides the original game ones.

The files highlighted in PINK are duplicate files, so you can delete one of them (with the menu that opens with a right click). If you are not sure if you should delete the file, the same menu also gives you the options to disable or move the file. This is useful in cases when you have a duplicate file that has a name that you can understand and another one full of characters that confuses you. It also helps you to identify if you had an old mesh in your downloads and later you add a file that is an updated or fixed mesh of the original one (as most of them are named like the originals by the persons who fixes them). If that the case, those two files of the same mesh create a conflict because you can only have one of them in the downloads. And you can find out which one is the newest one by the date of installation that the CI gives you. Perhaps these files highlighted in pink are the ones that you need to review carefully, especially if you have too many of them.

You can find The Clean Installer Quick Start Guide, FAQ and the Manual with more detailed and accurate information here.

The files in red are global hacks. They're probably not corrupted, but change something in your game you don't want changed. And if they're for a EP you don't have, or for an EP earlier than your latest one, they can cause problems. Unless you know they're safe, I suggest getting rid of them.
The files highlighted in pink are just duplicates of other files in your downloads. They aren't corrupted in your game either but you should probably just delete them so as not to have unnecessary files.

Thanks, i'll be sure to go through the CI to check which ones are which colour and to make sure I have no duplicates of any kind. I'll let you know if this helps my game.

Ok so i've deleted the pink files never come across any red ones. It hasn't helped my body shop however to load. So i'm guessing I still have a bad file in my downloads section maybe which prevents me to create a sim. What might my next option be to try?

I have had my game crash and had so any problems with it in the past, and everytime, it was a bad file. At first I just deleted ALL of my downloads and started over (I know, dumb huh) Then I did the 50/50 method which is a good method, just time consuming.
Then I posted on here for help and someone suggested taking out the last downloads, so I tried that and found the bad file in a very short time.
Good luck, I know how frustrating this is.

It's a good idea. Thanks Pam your right the 50/50 method is really time consuming by the sounds of it, also maybe slightly confusing. I coul take out some downloads of some of the last downloads I downloaded. However I don't know how far back in my game this problem started as i've not actually created any family's yet. The only thing I guess I could do is take out some from awhile back and see how it goes I guess.

Yes, mie was always problems with objects, I normally don't ever "play" the sims. Maybe you can remove your downloads to a temporay folder outside of the game, split your hair, skins, and all of those and just add a few at a time, start up game and try to make a family and see if it crashes. (?)

I do know, I've gotten the best help here!

If you have windows 7 there's a way you can find out when you added a particular file to your downloads folder. (It may work on earlier versions of Windows, I don't know.) Open your downloads folder and right click on the bar where it says Name Type Modified. There should be an option for "Date Created". Click on that and it will add a date created listing to the bar. Click on that and it should rearrange your files in order they were added. Then take out the files that were added from the date the crashing started.

After that put them back in one at a time until your game starts crashing and take that one out.

This is the best advice for Laura, given the fact that she has all her downloads together without subfolders. I don't know if it works for XP, but I know it also works for all versions of Vista .
