Default Need a tutorial for making glass/transparent objects.

I have found several tutorials from MTS2, but they are all fairly old and the pictures are missing, making it pretty difficult to figure out what I need to do. So far, I'm just guessing which probably isn't the best idea.
I am not using Photoshop, I am using a different program that allows .png images and transparency.

Is it a recolor or are you talking about a new mesh?

Sometimes if the mesh allows it you can simply use a transparent image to give something the glass effect. (This is usually if the texture you're replacing is also transparent. Otherwise you will have to mess with the material definition. This works for recolors as well as they also have their own material definition.

One way is to upload your transparent image that you want to replace the opaque image with and then click on the material definition and change the alphablendmode to blend.

But at times the mesh overlaps itself and looks weird in game when you do that. In that case you would use a normal texture instead of the transparent one then change the alphablendmode to blend, the alphatestenabled to 1, and the alpha multiplier to less than 1.

Hope that wasn't too much, lol. but once you do it a couple of times it makes more sense.

Although this is not a tutorial, pixelhate's info guide has a lot of information and pictures that might help: http://echo.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=316260 Part 3 in particular is all about transparency.

Thanks! I also found a really good guide for TXMT and once I understood the basics, I've been making glass lamps all night. :> Yay!

Yeah that tutorial by Pixelhate on TXMT is very useful! To find it, just go to mts and search for member "PixelHate" and look up his articles (I'm pretty sure he only has 1) Exploring the TXMT. It's a must have for all kinds of cool stuff, not just transparency, but also making things shiny/reflective, have bump maps, all kinds of things, definatley worth downloading and reading.
