Default recolouring sip living 7 painting

I'm having trouble recolouring the sip 7 painting and was wondering if anyone can help me. What happens is that I recolour the mesh but the decroative bit at the top just looks like a blob. How do I bring the mesh texture into my recolour. I use photoshop. Thankyou for your time and help.

Do you have an image of what you are talking about so that we can see what you mean? An image of what it looks like complete and an image of your texture map would be extremely helpful.

Did you lay a texture over the frame portion of the map? Or did you just try coloring it?

I would try copying the original SIP map, delete any areas around the frame then remove the color.

On your recolor map, place a texture of your choosing. Then place the copy of the original SIP map on top of your texture, make it into an overlay - adjust color as necessary and sharpen.

You may have to change the transparency to the overlay after you've placed it (hide your texture, place the overlay texture then change it to "overlay", unhide your texture then make adjustments to the overlay as far as color, etc.)...I hope that makes sense.

Edit: I forgot I had this in my files, I made it so long ago to explain overlays to another member...

    Overlay Tutorial
    by Tinkle

Creating a Texture using an Overlay

To begin with I had a specific texture that didn't look great on the mesh I was trying
to recolor so I made my own by doing the following.

Here I have the original texture (Red) and I have created a blank document with a
transparent background. I use the Eyedropper tool to pick-up the color from the original
texture and then I "paint" it into the blank canvas.

Here I have adusted the color of the new texture, making it a bit daker.

Here is the new base texture on the left and on the right you see the "overlay" texture
    I plan to use.

I have copied the "overlay" texture and pasted it to my base texture. You will move it
    into place.

In this image I have selected the "overlay" texture and in the Layers tool box I have
selected the "soft light" feature found just above your image lists. This makes the overlay
texture lighter in color so I will darken the overlay until I achieve the color I want.

In this image I have achieved the look that I want. When I add this to the mesh map I
will select and use the copy merged selection and paste into the mesh map or if you want
you can create a new document, paste and save your new texture to have on hand at a
    later time.

How to use an Overlay when Recoloring Detailed Meshes

I use this method when recoloring a detailed mesh. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
Sometimes you will use the entire image, or sometimes you can cut and paste what you want
or need from a mesh map.

In this image the original mesh map is on the left. I have copied and pasted this image into
a new document, shown on the right. In my new document you will notice that it is lighter than
the original, this is only because I have adjusted the color already to fit my needs but when you
first do this it will look exactly like your mesh map.

    IMAGE 8

In this image I have sharpened the image to make all the details appear more clear when I apply
    it to my recolor map.

In these images I have added the wood texture and my new fabric texture to the mesh map in the
appropriate areas. I have now copied and pasted my mesh map overlay as the last layer, it should
be on top. You may need to move it to the top using the arrange button.

In these images I have used the Overlay feature on the mesh map layer. As you can see the color is
off so I will adjust this by using Enhance/Adjust Color/Color Variations . When using the "Overlay" feature you may or may not use the Opacity feature
if need be, as you play with the setting you will find that some things work with certain layers and some
of course don't. For this particular project I didn't like the "Overlay" feature.

In these images I have used the "Soft Light" feature found in the Layer Tool Box on the overlay texture.
I will still have to adjust the color to fit my needs.

Once I have achieved the look that I want I can continue saving my mesh map and recoloring process as normal.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It's sort of a trial and error method to achieve the look you want. However
it does help when you are working with a more detailed mesh or want to add more "texture" to your recolor. If you have a pillow
that you want to appear as having a button in the center, look for an image that closely matches that look with the indentation of a button
and follow the same process. For a button I would add the button texture on top of the overlay if the button would have a different texture than
the main part of the pillow.

    Hope that helped!

LOL...Photo Shop Elements because it's what I had when I first started recoloring and what I'm comfortable with even though I have PSP.
