    Default SIMS 2 CLEAN UP....by a downloadaholic

Although I had uninstalled the game, I found it hard to get rid of my cc (some of which I paid for). My cp has become VERY SLOW. Procmon registered thousands of attempts by my system to access my sims 2 folder and I finally decided to get rid of it (its IS saved on an external drive). I deleted a whopping 160,000 + items totalling over 46 GB. I think I might be obsessive about cc and have vowed to be more prudent about sims 3......harder to move the stuff in and out of the game.

    time will tell!! LOL

Your game ran, with 46GB of CC? What was your loading time?

I kind of miss TS2 since I went ahead and deleted everything. But I made my decision and I'm sticking with it

When I think about custom content and I read people saying that they have gigs and gigs and gigs of stuff, I don't feel to bad. I feel like my obession with downloading isn't that bad. I only play TS2 and I have a computer especially for gaming. I think the problem that slows our computers down is the registry. After you have installed and removed and installed and removed so many times those fragments remain there and can slow down the computer. When I played TS1 I would have a long load time as well. I can't give up the download obession I just need to be mindful of the other non important stuff that's on the pc. Also I think we don't need 25 recolours of the same item. I try to think releastically when I download items for the game. A good way to keep all of your downloads is backing them up on cd-r's or dvd-r's just incase you decided to delete them off the pc. ::just my two cents::

glad to know I am not the only one with a cc problem!! I have too much but most of the stuff I just can't bear to get rid of! I go through every so often and try to clean out stuff but myh dl folder has just gotten ridiculous, it takes about 45 minutes for my game to load! I think ranbluu has a good idea though, I really need to go through my recolors and clean them out!

All of my cc's are backed up on dvd's - sooooo many times I have cleaned out my download folder - then when I am decorating, I can't find certain items, and I end up putting everything back into the download folder!
May you always have a seashell in your pocket
    and sand in your shoes

My CC is on Cds...oh my! My Sims are also on CDs, but on my email as well so if the CDs get screwed up then at least I won't have to recreate them. It's a pain.

I only have a little over 17,000 downloads and I'm fine with that...but I still can't image your loading time...hours. Maybe? Go to bed and wake up the next day?

First of all apologies if this fact is already known to you guys out there, but I was interested in the comments about how long it takes for folks' games to load up and I thought perhaps some of you might find this useful. To speed up load times...go to i) Documents ii) Click on EA games folder iii) Click on Sims 2 folder
iii) Look down list till you find Group Cache and Accessory Cache
and drag these to the Recycle Bin
    iv) Empty the bin
    v) Now start up your game
You will not do your game any harm by doing this as these two folders are regenerated by the game each time you access these files....which means you will have to do this each time you want to play the game.
You should hopefully find this considerably speeds up the load time considerably. GO GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
