Ooo Betsy I love your entry, especially the African one (of course) and the Chinese, which is perhaps one of the most famous paintings of Vladimir Tretchikoff, whose art became famous in South Africa, where he spent the majority of his life. He is known as a South African artist even though he was born in Russia. He became the 'King of Kitsch' and copies of his paintings have become really hip and happening among the young here in SA. I remember as a child visiting my aunts house, prints of his paintings were dotted all through her house, including his Chinese girl.
A random piece of info!![]()
I had no idea!! I just loved the look in her eyes...such a sad woman with such asian beauty....I just googled Vladimir Tretchikoff and so many of his female subjects have that same look but yet, you can tell that he loves and respects women.

He and his wife were married for over 70 years! He must have been specialThey both lived into their 90's.
He was considered a tad risque, in ultra conservative, apartheid South Africa for his paintings of the nude female form ! lol What is amazing is that he had no training as an artist, it was just God given talent.
But he was and still is much loved by South Africans. His painting I loved the most as a child , was The Lost Orchid. It always made me sad and I remember looking at it at my aunts house and trying to imagine who it belonged to and how it ended up lying unwanted and forgotton on the steps.
Wow all the new entries are so amazing! Feeling a little shy about showing my mediocre work now, but will enjoy seeing everyone elses! :springhs
