Paysites Sharing Personal Info - Closed but saved for information purposes.

There's been a bit of a "stirring" in the last couple of days within the community when it was discovered that FA's at TSR have a thread in their private forum for sharing personal info i.e. real names, email addresses etc..obtained via Paypal.

A member of Sims Cave recieved an email from a TSR FA who also has a personal paysite stating that their personal datas would be shared with other paysite owners if they shared the files they purchased from the personal paysite with other members of the community. The files were shared and this persons personal information was posted on the FA's private forum.

Is this on?

We don't want to start a huge paysite debate and if this thread gets out of hand it will be locked. We know this subject can get quite heated, but lets stick to the subject of personal data being shared rather than the legalities of paysites and pirates. ;)

Yes that would definitely put me off! When I register on a site, I fill in my personal information in confidence. They would have absolutely no right to reveal any of that information without my permission, and that goes for anyone, no matter what they might have done with pay files. I've heard of people being kicked off sites for that reason before, but never the release of personal info.

I totally agree with Eva....It's disgraceful that this is happening and I hope that the relevant action is taken against those who violate the confidentiality of our personal information. As a subscriber, I would be mortified if my personal details were floating around in cyber space for all to see! It definitely makes me weary of continuing with subscriptions :(

I' am totally shocked. I cannot believe that people are able to do this. Sharing private informations is against law in any country so they can get serious problems, so I hope they will get the trouble, they searched for.

That is not the only problem, for me is this one reason to use booty and I think many others will loose their trust in such systems and do the same.

It casts a damning light on every site which uses paypal even if they don' t do such things.

No matter the WHY of the sharing of info, the act of it is ILLEGAL.
And there's no way that those involved at TSR can say they didn't know that.
After all of their shouting about other things being against the law in their eyes, it goes to show that they obviously have their own views on the law and legalities.
PayPal has stated beyond a doubt that there can be harsh punishments for doing at TSR has done. I sincerely hope that they receive them and show the others in the community who are doing the same, that you cannot mess with someones REAL LIFE.

When i fill out thoose forms i am thinking they behave but this clearly says we should not be so blue eyed.
Threatening is illegal in itself here In Norway. Other peoples personalia you just dont want to tempt with. It is VERY illegal and your shure to get domed for that.

I hope many many people see that and open their eyes. No matter what their reasons are and whether they think they're right or whatever, sharing personal info is not a good thing.

Regardless of any country's Privacy Laws, it is my understanding that PayPal's TOU is pretty much the same globally and the sharing of personal information obtained through the service is illegal. Period.
To me, it doesn't matter how much personal information is obtained (e-mail, full name, home addresses, credit card numbers, bank account, etc) sharing any of it outside the 'company' is illegal.

What bothers me the most, besides that it is being done, is that it has been done before and as far as I can tell, nothing has been done to the violator(s)

I know that the first time that I received a donation to my site via PayPal, I was so surprised to see that I could see all of the personal info on the donator on the invoice. It made me quite uncomfortable. Now to hear that some FAs from TSR are using it against people and wielding threats,is abhorant to me. Is this their modus operandi
for all donors or just those who they suspect might post their beloved pay files to the community? I wonder also if TSR has instructed {pressuring}their FAs to start doing this. Unbelievable. The sims is just a game, fun. When you start to include{do harm} people's real lives, you step over the line of human decency.
